Welcome, friends and strangers, to the Clan of Misty Tradewinds!
Our clan is split between Water and Wind, after our chieftainess’s mate spoke ill of the Tidelord’s readiness to send ill-trained dragons off on exaltations. The chieftainess and her closest supporters within the clan refused to leave the pearl beds that the clan called home, the cratered reef where countless dragonets had taken their first breaths. Not only was there an attachment to their homeland, her gift of clairvoyance could only function with the Tidelord’s grace. And so, the night her mate and his followers were to set out for the Windsinger’s domain, she received a prophecy that went something like this...
“To the place of the meeting of tide’s rain, flame’s warmth and wind’s mist,
To the place of bamboo and raintrees that brush against the sky,
To the place of the Parda’s roar and the Mith’s flutter,
They will go and find peace”.
The chieftaness quickly wrote the prophecy down so that it’d be easier to recite. She rushed off and combed the seafloor for hours before she found an empty whelk shell that was the perfect size. Once home, she recited the incantation, and then the prophecy, so that when the shell was put to the ear, one could hear the prophecy loud and clear.
By then it was almost dawn, and her mate’s followers were milling about, making the last-minute preparations necessary for the journey. He was about to address them, but the chieftaness stopped him. She gave him the enchanted shell, strung on some twine to be worn as a pendant. “Put the shell to your ear”, she instructed, “and you will know where to find your home”.
Finally, the chieftainess gave her lover one last embrace, as she promised, “My love, I will forever miss you, but I can see that we will meet again. So, I bid you farewell, at least, until we are together once more”. With that, the departing dragons left the Sea behind, as tears streamed down the chieftaness’s face.
Sure enough, the prophecy wasn’t lying, and, after three days worth of an exhausting long-haul flight, they had reached the Windswept Plateau. They soared over jagged mountain valleys and misty bamboo forests alike, but they all knew it at first sight when they found their new home. A layer of mist hung perpetually over the forest canopy, and it felt wonderful to dive through the cloud. Several massive raintrees dotted the area, the perfect size and shape to be dens. A pristine river cut the forest in half, ending in a spectacular waterfall feeding the water in an old flooded quarry. It truly was perfect.
You might wonder who the chieftaness’s wayward mate is. He, is none other than the father of my nests and love of my life, Gloer.
As for the clairvoyant chieftaness? Well, of course I know her. She’s me, Avna.
As previously mentioned, our clan has two lairs: the Pearly Depths, a seaside cave that descends into a sheltered lagoon, popping with colourful corals and teeming with life; and the Cirrus Forest, a verdant rainforest paradise veiled by the mists.
Our plans for the future are to get serious about breeding and to start expanding as quickly as we possibly can. I don’t currently have any projects in mind yet, but I’d love to get started soon!
