A clan, born into Lightning, is weighed down by the strain of crushing labor, harsh climates, and an uncaring tyrant of a god. The progenitors of this clan denounce their wicked god of lightning, and announce to the clan their intentions of leaving the barren and charged desert for a better life. Half of the clan is split: one side leaving, beginning to wander the terrain in search of oasis from Lightning's unending work with no true gain in sight. The other side leaves, loyal to Stormcatcher, and alerts other nearby clans of their apostasy from Stormbreaker and his Work. Hunted through the wilderness, the clan is trapped on all sides by Lightning clans, except for one route, the gateway where Lightning meets raging pools of Fire. Seeing no hope, the progenitors call out to any god listening to have mercy on them and save them, that their kindness would be rewarded with true loyalty and affection.

The Flamecaller heard their cries, and transformed the progenitors into Banescales, as a sign of acceptance of this plea. The clan, ravaged by attacks and the splitting descent, was now only 1/8th of its former population, but they began to be happy under a more caring goddess. They were directed to fly towards an island of Fire rebelling against those in Fire who had taken an attitude akin to their former tyrannical patron. They joined in the war with as much power as they could manage, but the Flamecaller saw what toll it was exacting upon the clan that now worshiped her devoutly. She knew that the rebellion would win, as her passions ignited their hearts against ideals from the interloper Lightning god, but she wished for this now, beloved clan to truly know peace.

Flamecaller sent a message of truce and treaty to Earthshaker, a god who wanted peace and unity above all else. She knew he would never despise this clan for worshiping her on his land, and would see this as the unity he so desperately wished for. Earthshaker accepted without hesitation, and Flamecaller sent a message to the small clan whose numbers now dwindled below twenty: "Go to Earth, and find the refuge you seek. Worship both me and the god that will house you. Just as I will protect you with flame and fire shooting into the sky, so will the Earthshaker protect you deep in the ground below, where peace and comfort awaits you with no conflicts from gods above. My lava flows within the rocks he claims, so now you will claim both of us as gods."

The clan said tearful goodbyes to the land of heat and passion they had come to love, and set off, towards the World Pillar, not knowing where the Flamecaller and Earthshaker would put them. As promised, draconic and elemental emissaries of Fire protected the small clan through their journeyings through Wind and Plague. Once safely within Earth territory, the clan was led deep into the Earth, into a subterranean paradise that even few Earth dragons could spot the entrance to. Devoutly they worshiped the Mother of Flame Above and Father of Stone Below, barely ever going back to the surface or even interacting with other Earth clans, except when pushed to their lowest supplies or to invite those weary from the constant wars into their home. But even now, some beasts of Shade threaten to break from their tombs, and the temptation of Shade's power can still corrupt those even within this haven of stone.
