Biography

CELESTINE
Bold | Impulsive | Eager to Please | Proud

Dawnguard
Sunset Line
Generation 1
Blood Affinity

As a daughter of Apllon, a proud heir to the Dawnguard and carrier of both his blood and his magic, Celestine had much to live up. As a child, raised under her father's watchful eye, she fought to appear the dutiful daughter. She learned her magics flawlessly, performed her biggest spells during Apollon's hour of sunset, and was the perfect Dawnguard hatchling.
Despite appearances, however, Celestine fought against her nature. Proud she was, yes. Powerful too. She belonged to sun and the sky and the fierce brilliant fire that had spawned it. Her magic was strong, and she shaped blood and used it to fuel her spells just as effortlessly as her father ever had. But try as she might, she could not get herself to appreciate the setting sun, and draw power from it as her father did. For she was also the niece of Ithildin, Guardian of Rising Sun, and Celestine preferred the glory of a new day over the shadows of oncoming night.

When Celestine was grown, Apollon sent her away, as he did all his children. She traveled far, but eventually settled in the Fortress of Ends, deep in the territory of the Icewarden, where for months on end the sun never set, and she could bathe in its glory forever. (At least, until the winter came - Celestine spent those long months huddled in her caves with a sun-lamp - but we'll get to that later.) As it was, Celestine was happy, and believed herself to have found her home. But still, she hid her true self under the guise of what-she-should-be.

It was Luna who saved her.

Celestine's best friend, a deep blue Tundra who shone like the stars Celestine both despised and adored - for what is the sun but a smallish star? And where do stars shine but at night? - a Tundra who spoke but little, and was seen less, but managed to be everywhere at once, pale eyes shining from a corner. As a hatchling, she had been small, alone, and frightened, though she dared not admit it. Celestine had taken her under her wing, and she had blossomed so quickly, Celestine herself had been both awed and proud. Celestine admired her friend for her clear, unflinching nature. She hid nothing but herself, and yet all was visible to any who looked. Celestine told her so, one night, and was surprised by her response.
"Many see the night, but few understand," Luna said, with those huge eyes that contained the entire world within. "Be who you are, because only the ones you care about will notice."
Celestine took her words to heart. The next time she practiced her magic, she did it at sunrise. No one was around to see, but Celestine could swear there was a twinkle of brilliant eyes reflecting off the snow, and the whisper of dark fur against ice just around the corner...

Celestine now spends her days helping guard The Icebound. From sunrise to sunset, she patrols, her magic a shield for those she protects. As Luna is to the night, so Celestine is for the day. But more visibly. You know, like the sun.
