You had been traveling across the Windswept Plateau, approaching Singer’s Brook. As you’ve walked along your path, your spirit has been so at peace that your mind allowed your guard to drop. Lovely, indistinct daydreams clouded your focus so that you never noticed just how tall and thick the bamboo forest around you had grown.

It’s difficult to tell how long you walk along this way before a slight tug in your brain alerts you that something might be wrong. Are you possibly lost? Hasn’t the path just gone on straight ahead? Were there any turns along the way? Any forks in the road? There might have been. Did you go left or right? How far back was it? Should you backtrack now? Or keep moving forward?

Wait. What was that noise?

You spin on the spot and see looming before you the form of an immense Gaoler dragon. Her tan jaguar rosettes and impressive antlers make her seem fierce despite the ginger blossoms scattered over her mane and body. She looks upon you grimly with suspicion and demands to know who you are and what your purpose is here.

Before you have a chance to reply, she takes you into custody and starts leading you on through the bamboo forest. Your protests and pleading are a wasted effort as the Gaoler doesn’t trouble herself to speak to you any further. She silently ushers you along the path until finally the bamboo gives way to a large clearing.

In this clearing is a village or small town, largely constructed of bamboo and cob, all roofed with thatch. The buildings vary widely in shape, size, and height. Most are round, oblong, or kidney bean shaped, single story dwellings. Some appear to be nothing more than a small, rounded hillock with a front door! Others loom several stories high and have large, crystalline structures, almost like oriole nests made of spun sugar, affixed all around the uppermost levels. The windows of all the buildings glitter in a rainbow of multi-colored stained glass, all delicately crafted Art Nouveau patterns, motifs, and murals.

Small rivulets branching off from the main streams of Singer’s Brook run through the town. Here and there, small bridges have been built over them, and you see a pair of Spiral hatchlings playing in the water a couple blocks away. At the far edge of the settlement, you see vast fields of farm crops stretching up to the edge of the lower cliffs of the Reedcleft Assent.

The Gaoler directs you to the nearest building, which in contrast to the rest of settlement, is constructed of thick stone. When you stumble inside, you realize this building is a jail. Your captor leads you into a holding cell and locks the door behind you, still without a word. She then walks over to the East corner of the building where a indoor water fountain, the size of the visible wall, trickles gently into a small, dark pool. Here, the dragon sits and fixes her eyes on you, cat-like and unblinking.

You catch a sudden chill and shiver, but is that an emotional reaction to your current situation? Or is that just from the cold mist given off by the water fountain? Either way, all you can do is wait miserably.

I started playing because of my son. After he started playing, he kept showing me all of the cool dragons he was adopting and breeding, and I began to take an interest. Then, one day, he showed me his new baby Spiral, Hector, and I was officially all in. I’m a sucker for Spirals. I go through phases with other dragon species, too. But, mostly Spirals. 🙃

My gameplay accomplishments to date:

Well, first, I guess, was reaching Level 26 at Baldwin’s. That was a big deal for me at the time.

I’m much more proud of the creation of two dragon subspecies, Camelot Coatls and Tundra Bees!
