totally not a mad scientist
"Make way! Make way!" shouts the large imperial rushing through, foreclaws clamped around a bubbling beaker that he hastens to toss out the open window. A moment later a soft boom echoes outside, rattling the building gently. He heaves a sigh of relief, as if it was a close call, but other than the noise and that soft rattle it doesn't seem to have done anything.

When you look out the window though, you find crater about twenty five feet across scorched into the grass below.

Safadel gives you a sheepish grin. "Sorry about that. Back to the drawing board, I suppose."

His familiar, Chip, gives you a deadpan look and marks something off on the wall. "Well. It was an unusually quiet week."
