When he was a young hatchling, Eyal's clan was attacked by a ferocious Ridgeback. Their clan leader was defeated in battle, and the clan forcefully scattered--all by one dragon. Terrified though he was, Eyal had a natural inclination towards Fire magic, and put up a significant fight against the intruder, despite their obvious difference in strength. Nevertheless, this action proved to save his life, for the Ridgeback appeared to see potential in him, and abducted him to raise and train as his own.

Stripped of his birthname and renamed 'Vulkra' by the dragon he soon learned was named Nox, Eyal refused to answer to it for the longest time, and made frequent escape attempts, yet his abductor always knew to find him.

Recognizing those efforts as fruitless, Eyal gave up on escaping and instead threw himself into the intense training forced upon him by Nox, and found that not only did it give him a modicum of peace, but that he excelled at it. It surprised him when the otherwise cold-hearted Nox would show him glimpses of pride, and even on the rare occasion something resembling actual affection when he performed particularly well; but even more so that he, himself, discovered that he actually craved his approval.

Training harder than ever as he entered adulthood, Vulkra slowly made his peace with both his past and the one he was slowly starting to consider his adoptive father.

Though Nox and Vulkra's relationship remains complicated to this day, Vulkra would not hesitate to fight for him should his life be in danger.
