frupplet's Clan

There are four divisional specialties among dragons of the Cay Naish Clan, Flora, Spirit, Combat, and Fauna. Their responsibilities are as follows:

Flora
The keepers of any and all manner of plant life in and around the clan's territory. They forage and provide meals for members who prefer a vegetarian diet. On important occasions such as celebrations of birth, death, or exaltation, they create beautiful flower arrangements as decoration.

Spirit
They provide an impressively wide range of mental and emotional services including counseling, parental training, and entertainment such as singing, dancing, and performances during important ceremonies. Keeping clan morale high is a Spirit dragon's calling.

Combat
Practiced in both physical and magical combat, as well as forging, they're protectors of the clan and its territory. Oftentimes they're called in to settle minor disputes between members that shouldn't require full council intervention. They also participate in arena events and other shows of power against rivaling flights.

Fauna
Caretakers of familiars and foodstock alike, they keep the environmental balance by ensuring no species is eaten to scarcity within the territory. They also provide well-trained animals for hunting, foraging, and use in Spirit performances.

Within the four divisions are ranks to show a dragon's progress in their craft. Reaching a certain rank is not a cookie-cutter process and members may stay at one rank for long periods of time or rocket through them depending on their skill and drive. From lowest to highest they are:

Keen
Younglings become Keens as soon as they show interest in any of the specialties. Because of the nature of growing and learning, switching between divisions as a Keen is readily accepted and easy to accomplish.

Apprentice
Once a Keen is sure of their choice, they must seek out a Specialist to train under. Apprentices usually remain with one Specialist throughout this rank, but it is not unheard of to switch teachers should their original become too busy or their personalities not mesh for the longterm. Changing specialties at this point forces a dragon back to the Keen rank where they must stay until they've proven they're serious about their newly chosen division.

Specialist
After completing their training to the satisfaction of their teacher and proving themselves in a display to the Leader of their division, Apprentices become Specialists. This is the final normal rank any dragon can achieve. They are respected as practiced in their craft and take part in the everyday responsibilities all dragons of that speciality do.

Leader
A rank only achieved by a select few, Leaders are chosen by the Founders themselves based on their skill and appointed to the council. Each specialty contains only two Leaders who work with each other to guide their respective division. Likewise, as council members, they work with the Founders to make important decisions about the direction of the clan. Leaders no longer take Apprentices the way Specialists do.

Founder
Less a rank and more a title, the Founders oversee all matters of importance related to the clan. Their word is final above all others, but they choose to rule alongside the council in an attempt to keep things fair and balanced. During the day-to-day, the matriarch acts as overall leader of both the Flora and Spirit divisions, while the patriarch acts as leader of Combat and Fauna.
