Situated on the border of the Lightning Farm in the Shifting Expanse is the science facility known as Outpost Toast. Commonly called 'Toast Post' by its occupants, the outpost is home to a variety of scientists all researching different aspects of the Shifting Expanse. Its odd name comes from the fact that the smell of toast can be scented throughout the outpost. No one knows where the smell comes from, since no one has ever made toast at the outpost.

Copper coils snake through the outpost with a vague sense of organisation. Makeshift buildings can be seen bustling with activity from experiments, tinkering dragons, and hunters. A fenced area with training dummies lies to one side and a roaring forge sits in the centre of the outpost with a merchant shop next door. Complete with an impressive greenhouse and an alchemist's workshop, the outpost has plenty to do with room to expand.

The leader of the outpost is the Captain - an ambitious inventor with an almost dangerous curiosity. Too preoccupied with his work to make a physical appearance, he typically communicates verbally through electronics capable of sound output. He most commonly uses a PA system to talk through the speakers located above and below the outpost, but has been known to frighten the odd dragon by talking through their radio.
