Clan Yrsung is a small, matriarchal dragon clan making its home in the Greatwyrm's Breach. Matriarch Yrsa, First of Her Name, is the Guardian dragon who inadvertently founded the clan. The intention is to keep its numbers small. One of every type of dragon makes her home here, along with many of their female hatchlings. All males and some females are called to serve the Earthshaker. Lore on individual dragons and their roles within the clan can be found on each dragon's page.

What does it mean for dragons to "pledge"?

Pledging in Clan Yrsung is the practice of publicly announcing and establishing a partnership (or arrangement of more than two dragons). Pledging is an act of love and support which, while not necessarily monogamous or exclusive, sets a precedent of trust and respect. Pledging is not done for breeding purposes, but as a purely romantic gesture. Pledges are noted in clan records, whether they are private affairs or clan-wide celebrations, and it's customary to present the recently pledged with paints, gemstones, and fabrics to decorate a new, shared space in the clan lair.

What does "-sdottir" mean?

In some traditions (Icelandic, in the case of Clan Yrsung) it's customary to have a child's name be a derivative of a parent's (i.e. the son, Paul, of father, Hans, thus becomes Paul Hanson). Because Clan Yrsung is matriarchal, dragons take their surnames from their mother (i.e. the daughter, Alice, of mother, Eva, would thus be Alice Evasdottir).
