The warm sun filtered through the lush foliage leaving dappled patterns upon the old gaoler's back. He closed his eyes as several orange blossoms flowered along his hide. The gentle sounds of the near river filled his ears, calming his mind.
"Finally, some time to rest," he sighed as his body settled into the soft grasses and wildflowers, their sent filling his nostrils. He had once again slipped away from the royal guard, hoping to steal away a few hours of sleep. However, good things can never last for long.
A shrill voice erupted through the trees, "PINE! Where in the blazes are you!"
The frantic form of a multicolored skydancer began to take shape through the trees. Her pink and yellow feathery coat made her appear like a flower in bloom, but her piercing green eyes showed her fierce interior.
She let out an exasperated sighed as she plopped down in front of Pine, taking time to gently brush his tangled fur from his face, her temper softening. "We have another visitor, dear," She said quietly, beginning to make small braids in his mane. "Another from the shadow border. They wish to meet with the us," she looked at his peaceful form, feeling a small amount of remorse for having to drag him away.
"I could take care of it, if you'd like," she asked, tilting her head slightly.
Pine opened his eyes slowly, his tree-like body creaking in defiance as he started to rise. "No, Hibiscus," he shook the loose dirt and grass from his body, "We should both be there. It is apart of our duties after all." He smiled warmly at his old partner, motioning for her to lead the way to town square.
Soon both dragons arrived near the old bridge, which now was more of a port of sorts. Here dragons wishing to travel from the Tangled Wood may have safe passage into the Viridian Labyrinth.
This is Aramoor. A once bustling trading center and traveler's stop now turned into a place for refugees and outcasts to take shelter.
The pair continued on, following the pathway from the port into town, passing several wooden dens and shops on their way. Their destination was town hall, a place where visitors could stop by and be assigned a guide or meet with a member of the council for any special requests.
"Hello there traveler," the Gaoler spoke with a welcoming and earthy tone, "I see you've made it safely," he chuckled lightly. "Don't worry, I've been expecting you." Pine nodded towards his mate, "Hibiscus and I will show you around town, but I cannot promise that it will go by quickly."
The skydancer laughed, "His old bones aren't like they used to be." Her feathery plumage shimmered as she lead the visitor out of the stone and root building. "Welcome to the city, friend."
