Though still fresh in the making, the Blight-Eater clan already has a strange custom. As commanded by the founder and leader of the clan, Ailmother Doomsayer, females born into the clan must- At all times- hide their faces from public eye when they reach a certain age. As a rite of passage, the females must hunt and kill a large avian and fashion its skull into a mask, which she will wear until he day she dies. Only her mate shall ever see her without her mask, which will be used as her grave-marker upon her death.

Males, which are less aggressive in nature, do not need to hide themselves as such, and instead must spend much of their days digging and scavenging to decorate their desolate home. Rarely do they hunt, but those who do much obey orders given by any female in the hunting pack with him. Males who are being groomed to become exalted can be distinguished from other Blight-Eater males by the hood they wear, which is removed and passed down to the next candidate when they leave to serve the Plaguebringer. Females are never candidates, and those who try are expelled from the lair, sentenced to wander the festering territory beyond.

Most recently, many Maize-colored dragons have made the lair their home, the loud and proud Midas, the so-called 'Duke of Corn' their leader. The Ailmother has grown wary of him, though Bonesaws welcomes him.
