The island of Arvarinar was long thought to be abandoned. It had disappeared from all maps that were being stored in the archives by the Beacon, and barely anyone noticed. In ancient times, however, this island was a sacred place for the worshipers of the Golden Crow, a semi-divine entity that preached the teachings of a concept known simply as Golden Light.

Those who came here were safe - until the Shade manifested close to the heart of the temple and destroyed its sanctified halls. Not all those who had stayed here were killed, though, and the process of rebuild was begun. Until...

One day, the few residents of the island - spirits, or dragons so old they could barely be considered alive anymore - were disturbed by the appearance of two very young dragons, Anu and Ean. They did not know what wonders they could find on the island they had found, for they only knew a small alcove near its southern coast. As they began their explorations into the redwood forests that grow on this island, they realised that dragons had once lived here, though it seemed to be very long ago.

What followed were interactions with those who still lived here. Some of them had been asleep, and soon Anu and Ean were uncertain if waking them up had ben a good idea. And of course, the Shade was lingering closely as it caught the scent of an enemy it had believed to be dead.

THE PRACTICE
Followers of the teaching of Golden Light ideally spend their lives in ascetic devotion to Lightweaver and meditate on the nature of things,
especially on the nature of light.
They consider compassion and wisdom to be the highest virtues,
and that dragonkind shall cultivate these in order to better the lives of one another.

THE TEACHINGS
What stands behind the concept of
"Golden Light" is a complex model of the world. At the center of it lies the idea that light pervades everything, that shadow is a necessary counterpart it must be balanced with.
By pervading everything, light is what connects and affects each and every thing in Sornieth, and everything that is pervaded by light affects everything else.

THE AURORAL ARCHIVES
When you reach Arvarinar from the southern coast, as most visitors did and still do, you will be greeted by lush, colourful plants growing by the seaside. For a dragon with a keen eye and a great sense of curiousity, however, a tower in the distance will be visible, though it is hidden by redwood trees already, since the forests gets more and more dense the further you delve into the island.

The tower was ruined when Anu and Ean found it, but as their clan grew, they decided to rebuild and make it their home. Thanks to the hints of Tharayya, a natural adventurer, they delved even deeper when they found rubble in the staircases leading below the earth. What they found there was a lantern that did not shine. Bemused, they decided to keep an eye on it, until an attack of the shade, where they were met with two dragons that introduced themselves as the last of the auroral fragments. As their child manifested on the island, the lantern shone once more.

It was revealed to Anu and Ean that the auroral archives had been built by a group of ascetics that interpreted the teachings of the Golden Crow in such a way that the "Golden Light" was especially to be found in the aurora that is occasionally seen on the island.

The rebuilt tower is the home of the youngest of dragons that live on the island, as well as its original guardians. On the top of it, there is an observatory to study the sky, while living quarters are found in the main body of the tower. A treasury lies in the cellar, and a garden surrounds the tower.

THE REDWOOD SHRINE
One has to walk far into the redwood forests of Arvarinar to find a secluded shrine, if one isn't disturbed by Aspen before that. The shrine is a quiet place: When you are here, the only things you hear is an occasional ringing bell as well as the glittering sound of a small nearby stream. During dawn and dusk, prayers are spoken here, and the residents of the shrine gather.

The object of devotion is to be found in the main hall of the shrine. It is a golden lotus-flower, filled with the purest energy of Lightweaver herself. The Golden Crow asked Seimei and his entourage to guide it well as the demise of the temple was already close. Seimei accepted the task and fulfilled it ever since. The others who live here are guardians of the shrine as well, and all of them have been here for hundreds of years.

When Anu, Ean and their clan came here, they were greeted with hospitality and wonder. Here, they found out about the island's history regarding the destruction of the temple, an event the auroral fragments had not witnessed. However, a danger lay here as well, a danger that had followed Seimei from the Beacon of the Radiant Eye even to this island.

THE TEMPLE OF THE GOLDEN CROW
At the highest summit of Arvarinar lies its greatest treasure: the Temple of the Golden Crow. It was built before the dawn of time as dragonkind knows it, by those who followed the teachings of a corvid dragon who was an emissary of Lightweaver.

You will know that you have reached the temple when you hear the sound of ringing bells in the distance. The forest is yet dense, but if you travel far enough, to a place that is hidden from the eyes of anyone who does not use the designated path, you will see great marvels. The temple's walls are golden and white, shimmering in the sun and glistening even in moonlight. Before its main gate, there is a pond harbouring the most awe-inspiring fish and aquatic plants. Avian dragons with the sweetest of voices sing of Light here.

Here, Anu, Ean and their clan met the oldest being that resides on the island: the Herald of the Golden Crow. The Herald resides in the temple together with his attendants. He is an essence of the Golden Crow themselves and serves as their speaker, but for a long time, he had no reason to raise his voice.
