Genteytey's Clan

The Clan of the Broken Sword was created with one goal in mind - to provide a sanctuary where any might feel at home, no matter where they come from, what they've done, or who they are. The Clan's eight founders each stumbled upon the others while running from their pasts, and the new lair has become the reality of a new beginning for all - and for some, the chance of redemption.

Marinia, Feldspar, Aqua and Azurite had been travelling together for a month when they stumbled across the carnage. Partially clotted blood mingled with ash in putrid crimson pools, barely visible under the clouds of flies that swarmed over them. Broken swords and spears lay strewn across the battlefield, numbering only a few more than the fresh dragon carcasses already being picked at by the circling vultures. The group were horrified by the scene and resolved to pay their respects to the dead by burying them. When the dragons began to dig the graves, two dragons approached cautiously from behind the nearby pile of rocks. They introduced themselves as Bumble and Brooke, and began to shakily describe what had happened there - how one of their own, Kagaron, had turned against them, how they had been outnumbered, and how, in the end, the betrayer had fallen on his own sword in guilt over what he had done. The group listened in silence, and provided what comfort they could, but little could be said to console them.

As they began moving the bodies to the pit they had dug, one of the bodies began to shiver and move, groaning pitifully as they did so. Bumble rushed to the dragon's side, noting the closeness with which the dragon lay to Kagaron's body. With a start, he realised he was looking at Moonlight, Kagaron's silent partner. A dark line had been gouged through her chest, but she refused to allow Azurite - the group's medic - to fix it. She gestured impatiently at Kagaron's corpse, until the travellers understood her message. Help him first. Azurite dubiously approached the body, and with a shock realised the sword had missed the nocturne's heart - he was still alive.

It was weeks before the dragon opened his eyes, and weeks more before he would talk to anyone but his ever vigilant partner, who stood guard over him day and night during his recovery. Kagaron was so ashamed of his actions, he spiralled down into a depressive cycle that was broken only by a suggestion from Bumble - that they set up a new clan, where the dragon might recover from his emotional wounds. Marinia picked up on this idea immediately, and despite protests from Aqua, the idea of a sanctuary was born. It took a long time for the Clan to get off the ground, and even longer to persuade Kagaron of their goal, but the Clan of the Broken Sword is growing day by day.
