“Oh, hello there! You’re the new dragon, right? My name’s Harley- let me tell you about Clan Boneworm!

"...Admittedly, it doesn’t look like much from the outside. It’s hard enough to find the entrance- see that tunnel in the side of the canyon wall? Look closer and you can tell that it’s not a natural geological formation, but actually a dragon-made entrance that leads into a hollowed out cavern. A Ridgeback is carved into either side of the entrance, serving as both an aesthetic design and a warning to outsiders who might think the cavern is natural or abandoned.

"As you venture inside and down the tunnel, glowing blue crystals, torches, and the occasional solar powered lantern or lamppost replace natural light. At the end of the tunnel lies an antechamber, where guards (such as my friend, Coralite) keep watch for invaders. Once you get past the guards, you come upon the main cavern. This is where the city lies.
It’s an awe-inspiring sight, even after you’ve lived here as long as I have. Tall, ancient looking buildings are sculpted out of the stone walls of the cavern, their surfaces intricately chiseled with designs and carvings.
Inside these buildings are my clanmates and I’s dwellings, along with the market and other shops, the training area, the blacksmith, the alchemy workshop, and my favorite place: the library. I could spend ages in that place, or in the observatory on the surface. (A staircase connects it to the city.)
The tallest and grandest towers -over towards the back of the cavern- are where the clan’s royalty live. From their vantage points they can observe the entire city and oversee its inhabitants. (I’ve always wondered what it’d be like to live up there. Must be nice.)

"Before I tell you any more, allow me to get into the history of the city.
The stone buildings themselves have been here for centuries, as far as we can tell. They had long been abandoned by the time the founding members of Clan Boneworm stumbled across them, and were in a bit of a bad shape. However, Clan Boneworm’s founders saw the city’s potential and fixed the place up so it could suit a large group of dragons. (I would say they did a mighty fine job!)
Once the clan was fully settled into the city, we all pitched in to start on making plumbing systems and wiring the place up for electricity. (You should have seen my fur after I accidentally touched the wrong wire once- it was all poofed out with static and took days to groom!) The construction is a long, ongoing process to this day, so only some pieces of the city have working power or plumbing.

"And now to get back on track!
While most of the city is contained in the main cavern, there is a web of tunnels that branch out from it. Some are easy to spot, well maintained, and commonly used, while others are almost completely hidden.
One example of a well maintained tunnel is the one that leads to where the clan leaders and officials meet to discuss plans, defensive strategies, and trials for criminals. The place where they convene is a grand chamber, with walls decorated with detailed carvings of the Stormcatcher as well as events in history. It steals my breath away every time I find myself in there.
Another example of a commonly used tunnel is the one that leads to the clan’s water source. An underground river flows beneath the main cavern, with a current fast enough to be used for hydroelectric power.
If you follow the river through the tunnel it has carved itself over the centuries, you will find that it leads to a lake. We don’t usually go that far, though, because a good portion of the criminal underground -ha! You see what I did there?- have settled on the lake’s shores.

"Finally, there are the catacombs. The tunnel that leads down to them is hard enough to find on its own- but if that doesn’t deter you from trying to explore them, then the maze-like structure of the catacombs themselves will. They’re nearly impossible to navigate -although the king, queen, general, and matriarch know their way around.
Nestled somewhere in the catacombs is the clan’s vault, where our treasure is stored. But for the most part, it’s nothing but tombs.
(However, occasionally when a brave soul ventures down into the catacombs, they come out running and screaming about hissing and movement in the shadows. They’re often convinced that a monster is hunting them.
But the catacombs are devoid of life...right?)

"Oh, don’t tell me I scared you off with a few rumors! Clan Boneworm honestly is quite a safe place, and I wouldn’t dream of calling any other lair my own.
Something about the constant bustle and activity makes me feel at home. There’s always some activity going on, be it construction to build new tunnels or technology, expeditions to explore and learn more about the city, or a variety of other things. I think you'll like it too.

"So what do you say? Are you ready to join Clan Boneworm?”
