Ruby Dragonryder was once Ruby Castella, daughter of two famous dragonologists. But when the Spirals her parents had been studying disappeared, they decided to go after them.

They never came back.

All alone, eleven-year-old Ruby wandered for a time until she spotted a dragon hunter market illegally selling dragons. She immediately recognized the two Spirals her parents had befriended, but wasn't fast enough to avoid their demise at the hands of the dragon hunters. Instead, she was able to save their hatchling Cindre and get away to tell the other dragons in the area, who burned the market to the ground. She then went on with Cindre to chase after the hunters and thwart them however they can.

Ten years later, twenty-one-year-old Ruby, who gained the title of the Dragonrider from those who know her story, is the leader of a clan that adopts those ravaged by the hunters and gives them a safe place to call home as they fight the dragon hunters and their cruelty.
