As with most clans at the height of the Crags, the requiem is not without it's history. Waves of tyranny and rebellion have hardened the frozen throne and the single, stoic Monarch who reigns there. She did not come by the throne through fair means by any stretch, but the Crystal Queen would argue that the means of her ascension were justified. Preceding her was the God King, Dominic, an imperial so driven by hate and revenge for the Beastclans that he used fear and distrust to corrupt the clan.

Under his reign, the requiem had become an army--an entire battalion of soldiers on a death march. The blindness to reason and demoralization that followed will always be the clan's shame. Were it not for Vitori (and Lyre, unbeknownst to most) usurping the throne and breaking Dominic's spell over them they might have become a plague worst than the shade by now. To prevent history from repeating itself, the clan has elected the Ministry of Sages to act as council for the Queen to keep her political power in check. Since her rise to the throne, most of dragonkind within the requiem has lost its appetite for constant war. But with an overabundance of fighters (and dearth of tradesmen), the clan had to find an alternative way of operating in order to survive now that raiding and pillaging were beneath them. By the authority of the Sages, the clan has begun to operate in espionage, providing arms for hire. The base of which is expertly concealed as a primitive apothecarium.

Now, each dragon is entrusted with a chess piece that speaks volumes of their worth to the clan and the position they hold in its hierarchy. Fighters typically carry a knight and sages are distinguished by the valuable rook. Careful of those baring black pieces, for they are either outsiders or merit the caution of one's trust.
