Gems are pretty easy to get actually. You can always find someone selling gems in exchange for treasure on the Items For Sale forum, and you can also sell your hatchling/dragons for around 7-8k treasure OR 10-15 gems each. Adult dragons are priced higher.

Nope... Can't give you gems without you accepting it :O My theory is that you hit the consecutive days bonus (hover over the bar under your name at the top of the page to learn about it! :3)!
