The Brilliant Sky Clan




The Brilliant Sky Clan has been many things over the years: A sanctuary for wanderers, a magical anomaly, a research university, and a wasteland. Matriarch Adara has taken the Starwood Strand as her charge, and this clan is intertwined with the forest like vines intertwine with branches and magic.

While their main purpose is to study and safeguard the woods, they will take in any dragon they find wandering, and send them safely to the Observatory. They know all too well that it's easy to get lost in the Starwood Strand forever...



I actively snipe dragons for Arcane dom, as well as to exalt and/or resell later for a profit. If a dragon in my lair does not have a familiar, chances are they're going to be exalted.

First, a home on the mountainside for wayward travelers. Slowly, as its tunnels grew and its library along with it, it blossomed into a respected research institution that only occasionally experimented on live dragons, with the end goal of researching and understanding the Starwood Strand.

But, time turns on.

Each year, the trickle of dragons slowed until one fine summer, when the leaves drooped pink with humidity from the cherry blossom trees, no new students enrolled.

University headmistress and stalwart mage Adara decided it was time to pack up and soldier on. The books would be donated, the lab equipment sent to the Observatory, and the magically expanding tunnels of the university left to time itself. She would take with her a few close companions and find a new home in the Starwood Strand, taking with her only memories.

At least, that was her intention. The tunnels had other ideas. See, when you let magic run rampant like that for so long in one space, it begins to coalesce and form a mind of its own. The tunnels had become sentient, and were just waiting for their moment to strike.

That moment came: A solar eclipse, blocking out the sun, leaving the planet in a state of false twilight and wreaking havoc to magic everywhere. In one of the laboratories where Asia was brewing a potion over an open flame, the combination of her magic, the tunnels, and the eclipse caused an explosion.

The tunnels caught on fire and burned ferociously, flames lapping pink and blue against melting crystal. So many died that day, their breaths gone up in smoke to the Flamecaller. The ones who remain, well, none escaped without their scars.

The tunnels remain, some quietly burning, others twisting in on themselves in anger, others only existing when you have just eaten seven Ember Mice and walked backwards for eleven footsteps. Either way, these tunnels are dangerous and very much alive, and those who remain have sworn their lives to keep whatever is within from getting out. Either that, or perhaps they themselves wish to find someone who was lost to that flaming pink rock.

Old Clan Description:

“To stand inside of the Star Wood at night is be embraced by an infinite universe. Along this former shoreline, the trees stretch skyward and grow taller than anywhere else. At night, they blossom and reveal millions of flowers winking in the moonlight like so many stars. It is a place for inspiration and thought. Many dragons discover their genius here, but many more become lost to the dangers hidden in its beauty.”

Few know this better than the members of the Brilliant Sky clan, who make their home on the coastal border between the fabled wood and the Crystalspine Reaches. A group of dragons who knows the forest intimately, the clan has dedicated itself to unearthing the secrets of this otherworldly wood: mapping its geography, categorizing its fauna, and attempting to replicate its ever-changing magic. It is a long process, one that will never truly be finished, but as long as there is the Starwood Strand, there are new things to learn about it. That will content the clan, they suppose.

If you happen to lose yourself in the shifting geometries of the forest, here you will be provided with a safe lair and a hearty meal for all lost travelers. And who knows—maybe you’ll even stay a while, listening to the clan spin you tales of unthinkable magic and ancient gods that sound too strange to be true. For, in addition to being a clan of researchers and wayfinders, scholars and mages, the Brilliant Sky Clan also prides itself on being a clan of historians and storytellers, whose extensive library is rumored to have been praised by the Arcanist himself.

They'll whisk you away from the terrifying, twisting landscape of the woods and back to a system of tunnels tucked away underneath the Crystalspine reaches, where dragons are shielded from the worst of Arcane's radiating energy. The front rooms are padded and cozy and safe, and the mountainside is protected from the worst of the weather.

So stay a while and enjoy a meal of Aether Cherries or Satin Mice while you listen to stories so enchanting you fall asleep filled with their words. Wash away your worries—a safe nest in a mountain cave awaits you when you sleep. A magic pink fire is burning in the hearth, and the mountainside is illuminated by the brilliant sky above.

Second old clan description: The Brilliant Sky University is a fully accredited research institution, located in the heart of the Starwood Strand. Founded by the guardian Adara, who took the woods as her Charge, and the fae Moth, who studies the magic contained within its trees, the University opens its doors to any dragon seeking a research-based education. All students will design and implement a long-term independent research project over their time here.
