The coatl expertly navigates the dancing kites above the Cloudsong, her brilliant plumage fluttering gracefully. She's arrived ahead of her easily distracted mate at this year's festivities. Landing, she makes a beeline for the peddlers' alley - she's looking to pick up kite-building materials for her mate to surprise him with.

A golden coatl and her azure imperial mate are taking their time in the tents of carnival games, laughing as they compete with each other.
"Gotcha again," Styx smirks at Delphi, sinking yet another ball in the moving hoop in front of them.
"The next one's mine," Delphi promises, accepting the Windsinger plushy that Styx hands him. "You are going to get so many Cloudkeeper Herald dolls that you could donate them to every hatchling on the Plateau."
"We'll see who gets to walk away with the most prizes. I bet it's not going to be me," Styx taunts.
Styx and Delphi have a rather strange competition they like to play every year. They will attempt every carnival game available, with the goal of beating the other. Sounds simple enough, except that the winner for each game will pass their plush prize to the other, and the true loser of the competition is the dragon who walks away from the Cloudsong with the most plushies in their arms.
Why bother handing over the prizes? is a question they've gotten from many dragons. Wouldn't it be more efficient to just hold onto your own? But Delphi would insist that this ignores the "glorious" origin of the competition.
It had started with Styx and Delphi simply wanting to win cute things for their sweetheart. Delphi wanted to spoil Styx with adorable things, and Styx wanted to make Delphi laugh at silly-looking toys. Then their competitive streaks had gotten in the way, and from there "who can win the other the most toys" snowballed into "who is the ultimate overlord of the carnival games this year" - with "tradition" dictating that the winner is the one who deposits the most toys in the other's claws.
The next game in the tent is a fishing game. Little wooden fish bob on erratic eddies in a small pool, stirred up by a Water nocturne. Styx grins smugly at Delphi. "Oooh, Mister Big Talk and Big Claws is gonna get the dolls again."
