Biography
Stratus the Storm Chaser just like the birds, toward the sky Theme: Sogno di Volare |
━━ story ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
”It’s too dangerous.” Nadia looked at Stratus’s mother, as if there were anything that Lightning could do to keep him out of the sky… “Mother,” Stratus said quietly, flexing his wings in the great wing whipping across the Steppes. The wind and waves wouldn’t touch them here, Status knew that for certain. But out over the Sea, that was where the action would be. That was where Stratus had to be. “I’ll be safe, I promise you.” Lightning heaved a sigh, glaring at Stratus the way she always had. For as long as Stratus could remember. “I couldn’t stop you.” With that, the Guardian arched her wings and turned away. Stratus felt the corners of his beak turn up in a smirk. It was quickly wiped away at the creak of mechanical wings, a prosthetic stretched over shriveled webbing. Zorana, his mate, approached with quiet steps. She didn’t look worried or upset, but didn’t look pleased, either. “So you’re off again.” “It’s my job, to find the storms, to seek them, understand them, direct them if I can.” Stratus nodded toward the unsuspecting Sea and the Water dragons, though strong in their own element, helpless to the Wind’s onslaught. “Wind wasn’t given to me for nothing.” Zorana snapped her wings once, didn’t respond. Perhaps Zorana would be useful this time out. After all, she was a Lightning dragon, not at all unfamiliar with storms. In more ways than one, they seemed meant for each other. “Maybe you should come,” Stratus suggested. “You’re always saying you need practice flying in the Wind. I should be able to hold you and the storm on course.” Zorana huffed. “Oh, don’t strain your wings on my account.” |

━━ history ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
|
Stratus has always been a strong flyer, thanks to his mother’s Guardian bones and his father’s thick fantail wings. He was always a bit of a showoff as a young Skydancer, ever showing his sister Derecho how he was simply much better than she was at anything he could think of. She went on to cut her own path in directions he was too afraid to go, while Stratus turned his wings to the sky and joined the Tempest Chase after his mother and sisters as their aerial squadron commander. Stratus commands dragons like Falco and Cobb in aerial maneuvers, proving himself every bit the leader that his mother turned out to be. However, making sure his dragons are flying straight still isn’t his favorite thing to do. Stratus’s command of Wind magic is among the most impressive in all the Tempest Chase, and uses it to great effect along with his Lightning mate Zorana’s ability to form storms to disorient and destroy their enemies. But, of course, not all enemies are made of flesh and blood. Stratus’s favorite battles are those fought only with his wings and his wit. He’d fly headlong into every tornado given the chance, race every tailwind and fight every headwind. His companions say, with some irritation, Stratus has the ego of a Pearlcatcher. Some of them even say he has the skill and ambition to back it up. Under Stratus’s direction, the Tempest Chase rose nearly to the renown of a proper army. With enough heavy fighting dragons to make a terrifying force on land, Stratus’s new air division is not just haphazardly flying and attacking dragons. After all, just as every hainu may be born to run and fly, not every hainu may win a race. Stratus hopes to see to it that his home and family is known Sornieth over for their professional fighters and peerless flying. No dragon would assume that Stratus is anything other than a Wind dragon like his mother, though he did inherit a bit of the questing Arcane influence of his father. He likes to learn different flying techniques from different breeds, clans, and Flights. When it comes to flying, there’s no distance too far. Of course, he also likes to travel, but, to Stratus, it’s more about the journey than the destination. |
━━ familiar ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Though clouddancers are often major pests to nearby clans, Stratus always had a sort of kinship with them, even adopting one that he calls Halleck. Halleck is quite old, and, judging by the scars on his head and back, has been fighting and winning a long time. There’s a poetry to the way he moves and fights, and Stratus tries to emulate the old bird’s quick and deadly attacks. Halleck is intelligent and independent for a clouddancer, as well, understanding when he and Stratus are only practicing. Though, he probably wouldn’t hesitate to teach Stratus a painful lesson if he made one false move. |
━━ clan ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Stratus met Zorana in the deserts of Lightning territory. Even though she could not fly, she seemed to somehow understand Stratus better than any he had ever met. Their interests lie in completely different quarters, but they nevertheless enjoy spending time together. While she looks for the secrets of sapience and alchemy, he only understands that such things exist. Like the wind, blown ever forward in time. Stratus is most impressed with Zorana’s ability to survive in harsh and punishing conditions. Even though he’s quite good at survival himself, he wasn’t raised to the harsh conditions Zorana was. |
Stratus’s biggest competition has ever been his sister Derecho. The two dragons do not get along very well, Derecho feeling constantly like Stratus has no goal but to harass and outdo her, while Stratus views it all in good fun. But, of course, he would, as his skills are easily seen and understood by the average dragon while Derecho’s are more hidden. Stratus is very much focused on appearance, while Derecho seeks what lies underneath the obvious. Unfortunately or not, not many dragons are wired that way. |
━━ notes ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
» Stratus takes his surname, Crowwing, from his father’s clan, the Crow Clan. It has been a long time since Stratus saw him, but he feels he owes Fayne much of his ambition. » » Stratus and his sister Derecho were not always Skydancers. Magic swirling around their father’s clan changes any dragons that draw near into Skydancers over time. The same effect was apparently had on Stratus’s egg even though his egg was laid in Wind territory. |
